Mayors' Christmas Dinner 2016
Generous locals have put their hands up to help out with the Mayor’s Christmas Dinner, continuing a 30 year tradition.
A call for volunteers came from Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese for anyone looking to help organise the Christmas dinner. The event, is aimed at ensuring senior citizens share in the Christmas cheer, instead of spending the day alone.
“Christmas is a special time, and this event is a long standing tradition which relies on donated time and food,” says Mayor Rachel Reese.
As a result, Chef Harry Morris from Harrys Restaurant in Trafalgar Street and Nelson woman Katrina Kidson have stepped forward to help organise the dinner. Mr Morris will be responsible for the catering side of things, while Ms Kidson will co-ordinate the event. The venue will be The Granary at Founders with doors opening at 11am on Christmas Day.
Plenty of volunteers have also come forward along with offers of food and beverages – thanks to Pomeroy’s, Benge and Co, Trailways, Giesen wine and Bidfood.
No more volunteers are required for the day - thank you for the wonderful response. Donations of cash or in kind, may be sent to the Mayor's office, Nelson City Council, PO Box 645, Nelson 7045. Please indicate: "For Mayors' Christmas Dinner" on the envelope, and if a receipt is required.
Tickets are now available for $15 at the Nelson City Council office and Stoke Library.
