Lantern Celebration & Workshops
Sat 17 Dec, 7 – 10pm
Centre of New Zealand (Botanical Reserve) & Sir Stanley Whitehead Park
Theme: Journey to the Stars!
The celebration begins as you make your way up the hill, towards the stars, discovering the magical world of celestial installations and performances. Once at the top of the hill, listen to some otherworldly music and watch the sun slowly set and the stars begin to shine. Then, it’s time to head back down to Earth. Use your lanterns to light your way, bringing to life the wonders that the night offers.
Dress as your favourite galactic character! Think Star Wars, Avatar, ET ...
7 - 9pm: Entertainment on the walk up the hill
7.30 - 8.30pm: Facepainting, bubbles and circus toys at the top
8.30 - dark: Band playing at the top
Dark - 10pm: UV performance on the way down
Get creating and make yourself a homemade lantern. Remember to use a battery powered light to avoid fire risk. Bring a picnic and warm clothing. Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult.
If wet, the event will be rescheduled to Sun 18 Dec. Check here and the ‘summerinnelson’ Facebook page for updates.
