Dog licence and registration

All dogs three months of age and older must be registered.

Once registered, the registration is required to be renewed annually by 30 June. Failure to register a dog three months of age and older will incur an infringement fine as well as late registration fee.

Dogs can be registered online or using the form below and returning it to Council. Please note that tags will be sent by post when you register online.

Updating your dog registration

You need to update your dog's registration:

  • if ownership of the dog changes
  • your address changes
  • in the event of the dog's death

Once complete, both forms can be returned by post to Nelson City Council, PO Box 645, Nelson or by hand to the Customer Service Centre, Civic House, 110 Trafalgar Street, Nelson.
