Konini Street retaining wall works
Construction of a retaining wall on Konini Street will now begin on Monday 31 March 2025, with work expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
The wall is necessary to address instability caused by the August 2022 weather event and will help protect the road and surrounding infrastructure into the future. The original March start date was delayed after power cables were found in an unexpected location.
A 24-hour road closure will be in place between 33 and 38 Konini Street from 8am on Monday 31 March until 6pm on Friday 16 May. During this time, there will be no vehicle access or on-street parking available in this section. Konini Street will remain open at both ends up to the work site, and detours via Wellington Street and Mount Street will be in place to help guide traffic around the closure.
Emergency services will continue to have access at all times. Pedestrian access will remain available, and where the footpath is closed, a temporary path will be provided on the opposite side of the road.
Rubbish and recycling collections will continue as normal.
