Privacy Policy

Nelson City Council respects your privacy.

Council has areas on its website where you may choose to offer information about yourself and your interests, including your contact details and feedback. If you choose to share any personal information with us, it may be stored and used for continuing communication for you. Please note, for email correspondence, Council will offer easy opt-out options as stated in the Direct Marketing Code of Practice.

NCC may collect statistical information on your site visit. This information includes your internet service provider, the time and length of your visit, the pages you look at on our sites, and the method by which you arrived at our site. This information is used only to measure site activity and to develop ideas for improving our sites.

NCC uses CCTV, drones, body cameras and other forms of image capture to support many of its activities including security and access monitoring, project data collection, surveying and aerial inspections, as well as investigation and enforcement activities. Information captured in this way will be used by Council staff and contractors for these purposes and may also be provided to other agencies, including the New Zealand Police and other local authorities, as required. Images/ footage will be held for the duration required to meet its lawful purpose. Area signage and or community notifications typically advise where and when cameras are in operation, unless this would prejudice the prevention, detection, investigation, enforcement of offences.

In the event of a state of emergency under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002, information held by the Council may be used for purposes that directly relate to Council’s management of response to, and recovery from, the emergency. This may include provision of information to other agencies that are, or are likely to be, involved in managing, or assisting in the management of, the emergency if required. Where this occurs we will notify you as soon as reasonably practicable of any emergency information disclosure.

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you would like to have your information corrected, please call 03 546 0200.
