Alternatives for items which can’t go in Council’s collection
Alternatives:
Small aluminium items such as wine bottle lids are a great resource which can be used for fundraising for charitable causes. These are collected by Natureland, and also through the Kan Tabs scheme for Kidney Kids NZ.
Local volunteer-led group Grassroots Recycling collects lids and juice/milk cartons – information about their drop off points and what they can collect can be found on Facebook.
Our local Lions clubs collect aluminium bottle lids, can tabs, (in fact any small aluminium item) for the Kan Tabs scheme for Kidney Kids NZ to support children with kidney problems, including the purchase of dialysis machines. Items like coffee pods and beer bottle lids are not aluminium and cannot be collected.
There is a drop-off bucket for Kan Tabs for Kidney Kids NZ at the Council customer service centre (110 Trafalgar Street), or you can collect your own and drop them off to the local Lions Club, just email secretary.nelsonhost@lionsclubs.org.nz.. Collection cans are also available through Resene Paints – request a can for your business, group, school or club at www.resene.co.nz/comn/whtsnew/kantabs.htm
Please make sure lids are clean before you drop them off.
