Trees
Fruit and Nut Trees
Council has been planting fruit and nut trees at parks and reserves in Nelson for nearly 40 years. We have chosen low maintenance trees such as figs, feijoas and persimmons, along with trees such as walnut, almond and hazelnut trees.
People are welcome take fruit to snack on as an enjoyable treat.
Heritage/Notable Trees
Appendix 2 of Nelson Resource Management Plan provides a full register of all listed trees. For more information, click here.
You can also visit The New Zealand Tree Register, which allows you to search for notable trees in New Zealand.
Council has two yearly inspections of listed trees on both public and private properties. These inspections consider the health of the tree and make maintenance recommendations.
If you have queries about a heritage tree on your property, please contact the Parks team askparksandfacilities@ncc.govt.nz.
Parks, Street and Road Reserve Trees
Trees on public land are a valuable resource for our communities and are listed as assets in our asset management system. These include trees within the road corridor, parks and reserves.
Council undertakes three-yearly tree inspections and has an ongoing maintenance programme for its trees.
If you have queries about a tree on parks and reserves or within the road corridor (including Council berms), please contact the Parks team askparksandfacilities@ncc.govt.nz.
