Harbourmaster Directions
Nelson City Council follows the New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code, applying its principles to marine operations in Nelson Regional Waters and Tasman Bay. Vessel movements are managed by the Nelson and Tasman Harbourmasters through specific control measures to uphold maritime safety. While these measures currently operate under this Direction, they will be proposed as Bylaws during the next Navigation Bylaw review to enhance regulatory consistency.

- AIS requirements
- Anchoring
- Zodiac and tender operations from ships
- Diving
- Engine immobilisation
- Lifeboat lowering

- Pilotage operations- signals for ships around the exclusion zone (pilots and PEC masters)
