Maungatapu Track

This is an historic route between the Maitai Dam and the Pelorus Valley - it is a rough four wheel drive track used by utility providers and some recreational groups.

The track is open to 4WD vehicles, motorbikes, walkers and cyclists.

Access by vehicle requires a permit from Council that can be applied for at our Customer Service Centre during opening hours. A key is required as there are two gates to pass through between the Maitai Dam and the Maungatapu Saddle. The permit application form sets out the conditions of access, including the requirement to pay a bond for the key.
