Route directions

Turn right into Hardy Street, cross over Rutherford Street, turn left into Kerr Street and then start up the Wellington Street Walkway on your left - this is quite steep so take your time!

At the top, head up Mount Street and carry on to the end, taking the top section where the road divides. Notice the restoration of the older style houses and the view of the city hinterland.

Drop down from Mount Street to Locking Street via the zigzag walkway. At the bottom turn right into Kawai Street and then left down the zigzag walkway to Renwick Place. At the end of Renwick Place turn left into Wellington Street, right into Examiner Street and left into Rutherford Street. Just past the Examiner/Rutherford Street intersection (on the left) is a playground - take the path located behind the lamp post.

You can visit the playground and the Quakers Acre Cemetery. Up the driveway to the left of the Sport Tasman office, just before the Selwyn Place traffic lights, is a set of steep concrete steps leading up to the Quakers Acre Cemetery. There is plaque identifying the location of the first meeting house in New Zealand of the Society of Friends, opened for worship on 15 May 1853.

Continue along Rutherford Street to the Theatre Royal which was built in 1876, and is the oldest wooden theatre still in use in the Southern Hemisphere.

Cross Rutherford Street and back into the Montgomery Square carpark.
