Changes to parking in Nelson city
Following a trial period from 20 October 2014 to 31 July 2015 Council has now made permanent the one hour free parking in Nelson’s Central Business District.
There has been positive feedback throughout the free parking trial period.
There is also a new free, all day parking area at the end of Wakatu Square for car pooling permit holders.
Council also opted to retain the hours when parking charges and restrictions apply. These are 8am-5pm Monday to Friday, 9am-2pm Saturday excluding public holidays.
Further parking after the first hour is charged at $1.50 per hour, which has brought Nelson’s paid parking charges in line with similar sized cities around New Zealand.
